Online Psychotherapy UK

Online psychotherapy brings the depth and rigour of psychotherapeutic work to you, wherever you are in the UK. This page explains what online psychotherapy involves and how it differs from general online therapy.

Online psychotherapy is depth-oriented therapeutic work delivered via a secure video platform. It explores the underlying causes of emotional difficulties – including past experiences, unconscious patterns, and relationship dynamics – rather than focusing only on symptoms. All the depth and structure of traditional psychotherapy is available online, making specialist support accessible from anywhere in the UK.

    What Makes It Psychotherapy?

Online psychotherapy is not a watered-down version of in-person work. It is the same depth-oriented, evidence-based practice – the only difference is the medium.

Psychotherapy goes beyond surface-level coping strategies. It explores:

    • How past experiences shape your present feelings and behaviour
    • Unconscious patterns that keep repeating in relationships and life
    • The root causes of anxiety, depression, and emotional difficulties
    • How trauma has affected the way you relate to yourself and others

    How Online Delivery Works

Sessions are held via a secure video platform. You log in from a private space at the agreed time. Each session lasts 50 minutes, usually held weekly at the same time. This consistency is important in psychotherapy – it creates a reliable frame that supports deeper work.

The therapeutic relationship is central to psychotherapy, and research shows this relationship can be established just as effectively online as in person. Many clients find that the comfort of their own space actually helps them open up more readily.

    Who This Is For

Online psychotherapy may be right for you if:

    • You have complex or longstanding difficulties
    • You want to understand yourself at a deeper level
    • You have experienced trauma, abuse, or institutional harm
    • You notice recurring patterns in your relationships or behaviour
    • Previous shorter-term therapy was helpful but did not go deep enough
    • You want access to a specialist psychotherapist but do not have one locally

    My Qualifications

I hold a Master's degree in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Roehampton. I am a BACP registered member (number 416139) and work under regular clinical supervision. I am a BACP registered member and am working toward accreditation.

    UK-Wide Access

All sessions are available to clients across the UK. You do not need to be based in a particular area. I also offer sessions in five languages: English, French, German, Persian (Farsi), and Spanish.

    Scope and Boundaries

Online psychotherapy is not a crisis service and is not suitable for everyone. I do not work with clients who require psychiatric input, are experiencing active psychosis, or need face-to-face clinical assessment. I work with adults only, based in the UK, via video. I do not offer in-person sessions, couples therapy, family therapy, or work with children. If online psychotherapy is not the right fit, I can help you find appropriate support.

Is online psychotherapy as effective as in-person psychotherapy?

Yes. The evidence base for online psychotherapy is strong. Research shows that the therapeutic alliance – the quality of the relationship between therapist and client – can be established just as effectively online. The depth and quality of the work are not diminished by the medium. Is Online Therapy Effective

How long does online psychotherapy last?

Psychotherapy is often longer-term than counselling, though there is no fixed duration. Some clients work for a few months, others for a year or more. The length depends on what you are working through and what feels right for you. We review regularly.

What is the difference between online therapy and online psychotherapy?

Online therapy is a broad term covering many approaches. Online psychotherapy specifically refers to depth-oriented work that explores the underlying causes of difficulties – not just symptoms. Therapy vs Psychotherapy

What is the difference between online psychotherapy and online counselling?

The terms overlap and there is no strict boundary. Online psychotherapy often involves deeper exploration of past experiences, unconscious patterns and long-standing emotional difficulties, while counselling may focus more on present-day concerns. My training in integrative counselling and psychotherapy means I can work at the depth you need. All sessions take place via Google Meet, weekly, for 50 minutes.

If you are looking for online psychotherapy in the UK, I offer a short, free introductory call. There is no obligation.

    Can psychotherapy really work online?

Yes. The therapeutic relationship is what makes psychotherapy effective, and that relationship can be built just as strongly online. Many clients find that being in their own space actually helps them access deeper feelings. Sessions take place via Google Meet with full video, so we can see and respond to each other naturally. The only difference from in-person work is the medium - the depth and quality are the same.
